The Girl Effect
November 6th, 2008Remember a time when we hoped women would take over the world and make it a better place?I picked up this story on the Girl Effect from the super Wokai crew who are focused on microfinance in China,
When I look at the breakdown of my Kiva loans I see 80% of my loans going to women. It makes sense really as they are at the providing end of the scale: food, retail, clothing, agriculture.
So this one is for the girls today

Hi Leslie,
You’re welcome. I liked it so much I did a post on it. It’s an exceptional undertaking and I wish you much success. I look forward to getting involved on the lending side too.
Keep us all posted.
Best wishes
Raf

Hey Raf,
Thank you so much! As far as I know, you’re our first fan in New Zealand! Would you like an insider’s view into our site? We’re currently in our pilot program, in which 2OO testers are logging in, creating profiles, funding real borrowers, and giving feedback on the experience. My favorite parts are the borrowers’ vivid family stories. You can read more about it here:

I’m currently in San Francisco, but will soon move to Beijing to serve as Wokai’s marketing director. I am very excited for this new adventure.
All the best,
Leslie
